In the poem, "The Perfect Friend", Shannen Wrass describes what a perfect friend would be like, and what that person would do for another person that they were friends with. She says that a perfect friend would know what she was feeling, and would know what her weaknesses were. She would know what her problems were, and would listen to and help her through them. The perfect friend would understand her dreams, wonders, interests, and fears. She would listen to her stories without interrupting, and would not tell her that she is wrong. The perfect friend described in the poem would be there by her side, and would not leave her alone. In the end of the poem, the speaker says that she tries to reach out to the perfect friend and pull her close to show her appreciation, and then she tries to hold her hand to show her that she cares, and realizes that "the perfect friend" is just her own reflection in the mirror.
The poem, "The Perfect Friend", illustrates the idea that we cannot depend on people on Earth to always be there for us, and make us happy. The poem suggests in a way that there is no such thing as a perfect friend that possesses all of the qualities that are described in the poem. Although, there are people in this world that have many of these qualities. The fact is, that nobody is perfect, and no matter how hard we try, we are unable to be that kind of person that never makes any mistakes in relationships with friends. Friends are people that are there for us to laugh with, cry with, lean on, occasionally fight with, get in trouble with, and most of all, to make the most out of life with. The speaker in this poem conveys the idea that the closest thing to a perfect friend is yourself, but I believe that there are those people out there that can come pretty close, even though no single soul in this world is perfect in the sense that they do not make any mistakes.
I love the way the speaker describes "the perfect friend" in this poem. It made me imagine a friendship between two people that was flawless, even though that would never be possible for humans. I agree with all of the descriptions of the person depicted in the poem, but I don't think that the only person who even comes close to possessing all of those qualities is yourself.Like I said before, I do not agree with the fact that the speaker says that the only person close to that "perfect friend" is yourself. I think that there are people in this world who possess these qualities, and are called "perfect friends", even though they are not flawless, and they still make mistakes. I have two friends like this in my life who are always there for me no matter what, and they understand just about everything that goes on in my life. I also think that this poem is also describing the perfect friend; God! He possesses all of these qualities, and He is always there! Overall, I love this poem because it brings a picture to mind that makes me realize how important and valuable my friends are to me!
