Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

“About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him-and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.”

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is the first book in the Twilight saga, and it is told from Bella Swan's perspective. Bella is a seventeen-year-old girl that moves to Forks, Washington from Phoenix, Arizona to live with her father, so that her mother can travel with her step-father who plays minor league baseball. Forks is the exact opposite of Phoenix. Forks is a small town, under near constant rainfall. Bella expects to be bored and miserable in Forks and she is, until she meets Edward Cullen. Edward is also seventeen, inhumanly beautiful, strong, fast, and his skin is ice cold. With these observations and a little help from a friend, Bella figures out that Edward Cullen is a vampire. But Edward and the rest of his family are not your average vampires. They attend schools like regular kids and instead of drinking human blood they drink animal blood. What also makes the Cullen’s different is that they love each other like a family and are very moral. Bella doesn't care that Edward is a vampire she loves him anyway and she wants to become a vampire so that she can live forever with Edward. But Edward doesn’t want Bella to become a vampire because he thinks that there is nothing after this life for vampires. Even though they love each other unconditionally there are still many obstacles that they have to overcome. The biggest obstacle that they have to overcome is that Edward has to fight every second against the urge to kill Bella because her blood is more potent to him than anyone else’s.

When I first heard about Twilight I didn't think anything of it because I didn't want to read a book about vampires. But my friends convinced me that Twilight was different so I decided to give it a try. They were right. Twilight is much different than any other book I have ever read. Stephenie Meyer mixes Twilight with the perfect amount of romance, action, suspense, and science fiction. Meyer writes Twilight in a way that makes the readers believe that it is all real and that vampires really do exist. Most people think that Twilight is just a teen book but many adults have read and liked it also. This past year Twilight was made into a movie and like most books turned into movies, the movie wasn’t nearly as good as the book. A lot of people don’t want to read Twilight because it is 498 pages but you hardly even notice. In fact, you will wish that there was more. Once you start reading Twilight it is hard to put it down and when you are finished you will want even more. So it is a good thing that there are three more!

  1. I have heard people all over the school talking about this book, and my friends really liked this book when they read it. At first, I, too, was not interested in a book about vampires. However, after the book and series have become more and more popular, I am starting to wonder what all of the excitement is about. The book even became a movie. Now that I have read a little bit about this book, I am definitely interested in reading it. It seems as if it is not an ordinary book about vampires, and I think I’ll give it a try.
