It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life

It’s Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life is an autobiography written by Lance Armstrong that tells the amazing story of his life. If you are not familiar with Lance Armstrong then you should probably know a little bit of background information on him. Lance Armstrong is an American cyclist who has won races all around the world. Perhaps his most impressive accomplishment is that he won the Tour De France seven times which is the longest, hardest, and most prestigious race in the world. And he did all that after beating off cancer and coming back to become a champion.
The story begins with Lance’s childhood growing up in Texas. Lance was an only child raised by a single mom who worked as hard as she could to support him and give him a good life. As a child, Lance Armstrong was a bit of a hyperactive kid. In order to control this, his mom began to enter him into triathlons as a way to use up some of his endless energy. It turns out that Lance was an extremely good competitor and he quickly became very good. Shortly after he began competing in triathlons, Lance decided to just focus on cycling. He would ride for miles and miles a day and he was beating people that were almost twice his age. It wasn’t long before Lance was noticed by coaches and he was invited to ride on the junior US national team. While on this team he experienced a lot of success and competed in many events such as the Junior World cycling championships. After a lot of success as a junior cyclist, Lance moved up to the big stage. At the age of 21 he became the youngest ever World Cycling Champion and was well on his way to becoming one of the best cyclists the world had ever seen.
He was brash, aggressive, temperamental, impatient, and immature as a young cyclist and he expected to win every event. However when he was 25 years old, Lance Armstrong’s life took a drastic turn for the worst. He woke up one morning coughing up blood and immediately took a trip to the hospital. He was diagnosed on that day with testicular cancer and was informed that the cancer had moved throughout other parts of his body and into his lungs. The doctors gave Lance a forty percent chance of survival and the outcome of this young athlete’s life did not look good.
However, Lance battled back against the cancer head on with the same intensity he had about cycling. Against incredible odds, he defeated the disease and came back to win the world’s most prestigious cycling race in the world seven times. Lance Armstrong is now a father and serves as an inspiration to people of all kinds.
In my opinion, It’s Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life is a fantastic book and I would strongly recommend it to others. It is an incredibly inspirational story and is a good read for all people. The book is not just for people who love sports or enjoy cycling, it is a book for all people. It can serve as an inspiration for anyone, whether they are a sports fanatic, a cancer patient, or just a normal person. The book is a story about a man who beats incredible odds and it shows that there are much more important things in life than just riding a bike. I really enjoyed this book because it showed me that people need to appreciate their lives because you never know when something terrible could happen.
I also liked this book because it was written by the man himself who experienced the actual events. I thought it was very interesting to read the story in first person and it really made me realize what Lance was going through. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone because it is well written, inspirational, and it can teach anyone how important life really is.

  1. This is truly a great story and an inspiration to anyone who feels held back on their way to achieving a goal. Having cancer is terrible as it is, but for a cyclist to battle against it with a 40% chance of survival is a great feat. On top of that he won the tour de france seven times which is hard whether you have cancer or not. This book seems like an inspiration and a teaches a great story to everyone. I would be eager to read this even though I have heard of his ordeal before because it lets people know they can accomphlish anything if they put their mind to it. I also encourage others to read this book.
