Twilight

Many people believe that Stephanie Meyers' Twilight is overrated, but it is definitely one of the best novels I've ever read. In Twilight, Bella Swan moves out of her mother's house in warm, sunny, Phoenix, Arizona to the small town of Forks, Washington. Here, in Forks, she lives with her father, and this town rains almost every day of the year. Bella didn't expect much change when she moved, but then she met the beautiful, mysterious, Edward Cullen who is not like anyone she has ever met. He understands her, and in very little time, the two are head over heels for each other. Bella knows that Edward is different, and she has her suspicions, but soon she learns that Edward Cullen, and his entire family, are vampires. The thought of this should scare any other teenager, but not Bella. She is completely intrigued by this boy, and the mere fact that he is a vampire seems not to matter to her. Edward is a different vampire though, he doesn't have fangs, and as his family's chosen lifestyle, they don't drink human blood. It becomes harder between the two lovers as they grow closer to each other because the more in love with Bella that Edward falls, the more of a chance he may not be able to control himself and accidently hurt her. Their seemingly perfect relationship is interrupted when another vampire, without the human saving views of the Cullen's comes to the town of Forks. One of these vampires, James, is a hunter, and he has smelled Bella's scent. This insane vampire will not stop until he has Bella's blood. Edward feels incredibly heartbroken because he knows he has put Bella in the worst situation, and could possibly be the cause of her death. Bella is more scared about losing Edward than her own life. Edward and his family come up with a plan to destroy James and to keep Bella safe. Unfortunately, Bella is endangered in this process and is tricked by James. He uses an old home video to make Bella believe he has her mother held hostage. She goes alone and risks her life to meet James in an old familiar place. But soon, she finds out it is all a trick, and he attacks. Bella is rescued by the Cullen's, but only after she has been bitten. Edward has to suck the venom out of Bella's bite, and incredibly he overcomes his urge to drink more of her blood than needed. This is a huge struggle for Edward, but he conquers it, showing his true, deep love for Bella. After returning to Forks, Edward and Bella go to prom together, and at the end of the night Bella tells Edward that she wants to become a vampire. In the end, Edward does not let this happen. This incredible, mysterious, teenage love story is not only for young readers. Many elements of this novel appeal to adults as well. After reading this novel, Stephanie Meyer's sequel, New Moon is a great way to find out what happens to Bella and Edward. This novel was such a joy to read, I could hardly put it down. I definitely recommend Twilight to anyone who wants a different love story that will keep you turning the pages for more!
